FUNCTIONAL TESTING AND SUPPLEMENTS
Functional Testing
Sometimes, extra insight can make all the difference. Functional testing helps us look beneath the surface to understand what may be driving your symptoms or affecting your wellbeing. These tests can be arranged through your GP or privately, and we’ll only recommend them if they’re truly useful for your health journey.
If you’d prefer not to test, that’s absolutely fine — many underlying issues can be uncovered through progressive dietary changes and a process of elimination, though this may take a little longer. For private testing, I work with trusted laboratories accredited for clinical quality, so you can feel confident in the results.
Why Functional Testing Matters
Reveal nutrient imbalances such as vitamin D, iron, or thyroid function that may contribute to fatigue, low mood, or hormonal concerns.
Spot “sub‑optimal” markers that sit within NHS ranges but still impact energy, mood, or performance.
Shape personalised strategies that support your body now and help prevent future health issues.
The Benefits of Testing
By identifying imbalances early, before they become a clinical problem, you can:
Feel better sooner
Lower your risk of future conditions
Gain clarity about your health
Take a proactive role in your wellbeing
Functional testing gives us the insight to move beyond “normal” and aim for true health optimisation.
What We Can Test For
Depending on your needs, testing may include:
Comprehensive blood analysis — nutrients, blood sugar, lipids, inflammation, thyroid, liver, and kidney health
Hormone testing — oestrogen, progesterone, testosterone, cortisol, and stress response markers
Thyroid panel — TSH, T4, T3, antibodies, and inflammation markers
Nutrient status — vitamin D, iron studies, B12, folate, omega‑3 index
Gut health testing — stool analysis for microbiome balance, pathogens, digestion, and absorption
Adrenal and stress testing — cortisol rhythm and daily stress response
Cardiometabolic testing — blood sugar regulation, cholesterol, cardiovascular and metabolic health
If you already have NHS blood work, you’re welcome to share your results. I’ll provide a detailed analysis and recommendations that go beyond “normal” ranges, helping you understand your body more deeply.
Supplements
At Shenti Wellness, we believe the foundation of good health begins with a balanced, nourishing diet. That’s why we follow a “Food First” approach, encouraging dietary changes to provide the best source of essential nutrients.
There are times, however, when supplements can play a supportive role — particularly if testing shows a deficiency, or if absorption is reduced due to conditions such as gastrointestinal disease. In these cases, short‑term supplementation may help restore balance more quickly, alongside dietary improvements.
Supplements are only recommended when there is clear evidence to support their use, and always with your agreement as part of a personalised programme.
We also offer a Supplement Review service, where you can discuss your current regimen and ensure it’s the right fit for your health needs.
